Appliance Prescription Management Service - starting 8th September 2025

The Surrey Heartlands Appliance Prescription Management Service (SHAPMS) is responsible for the prescribing of all stoma, catheter and transanal irrigation products for people living in the areas covered by the Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board.

Stoma, catheter and transanal irrigation products include all products, accessories and consumables (for example, barrier sprays and adhesive remover).

Information for patients and healthcare professionals can be found here: SHAPMS | Bullen Healthcare

Patients will be able to order their appliances via phone, email, or an online ordering system — offering greater flexibility and convenience. All patients have been contacted ahead of the launch and will receive a welcome call to confirm their prescribed items and set up their preferred ordering method.

We’ve worked closely with our local hospital and community specialist teams, as well as other hospitals that also care for Surrey Heartlands patients — including Frimley and Kingston — to ensure a smooth transition. Patients will be registered with the new service when they are discharged from hospital or seen in the community.

Prescriptions will now be signed by specialist nurses, who are well-placed to identify any issues and refer patients to local specialist teams if needed. Centralising the service will reduce administrative workload for GP practices, allowing them to focus more on direct patient care. Patients will continue to use their existing dispensing and delivery service if they wish to.

We believe this new approach will deliver better value for money for the NHS and improve the overall experience for patients and clinicians alike.
