Prescribing for children / paediatrics in Primary Care

The Joint Formulary includes only a limited number of indications for paediatric use e.g. acid suppression.  As a general rule, for requests to prescribe for paediatrics in primary care, reference should be made to the Children’s BNF for detailed advice on indication and dosing.  It is recognised that much prescribing in paediatrics is unlicensed or off-label but provision for this is made, where there is a substantial body of evidence to support the use, in the Interface Prescribing Policy in section 12.2 Guideline Profile : Interface Prescribing Policy (IPP) - surrey.res.services
