Status 1
- Lozenge
Prescribe by brand.
Nicotinell plain, or NiQuitin Mint 2mg, 4mg are preferred NRT lozenges, 96 pack size is not cost-effective.
Expensive choices are Nicorettte Cools or Fruit, or NiQuitin Minis Mint or Citrus (reserved for One You Surrey).
Status 2
- Patches
Nicotinell TTS is the preferred 24 hour patch.
Nicorette Invisi patch is reserved for pregnant and breast-feeding patients only.
Status 3
- Gum (chewing)
Prescribe by brand.
Nicorette gum 2mg & 4mg (any flavour) is preferred gum (except for 30 piece packsize)
Status 4
- Sublingual tablets
Nicorette Microtabs 2mg SF - these are less cost-effective than the lozenges
Status 5
- Oromucosal spray
2nd line
Nicorette QuickMist 1mg (any flavour) - pack of 2 is less expensive. Dose is 1 to 2 sprays (contains 150 sprays per bottle).

- Inhalator (device)
Nicorette 15mg Inhalation cartidge - to be used for patients unsuitable for other short-acting NRT

It was agreed that NRT products should be available in all care settings to support smoking cessation, therefore most NRT products are proposed as GREEN traffic light status, with an indication of which are cost-effective choices.
A small number of NRT products are not in use in Surrey and so are proposed as non-formulary.
