Committee Recommendations (1)

The Surrey Heartlands APC approved the "Guidance to support the appropriate use of Home Nebulisers for Adult Respiratory Patients in the community."

The guidance advises that "Treatment administered via a home nebuliser in patients with respiratory disease should not be prescribed in primary care without a formal assessment by a respiratory specialist clinician with appropriate expertise in nebulised treatment. The patient and/or carers ability to use the nebuliser should be assessed by a trial of a nebuliser loaned to the patient for a few weeks, before commencing on long term home nebuliser therapy."

The guidance also provides advice on the management and provision of home nebulisers and other practical information - see guidance document for details.
