Emollient guidance has been reviewed and is available in the documents section:
- Full guideline includes information on excipients and sensitisers with safety warnings e.g. cetostearyl alcohol and flammability risk
- Summary guideline
- Cost-effective prescribing recommendationsClose
The Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care System Area Prescribing Committee agreed the updated Emollient Prescribing/Switching Table (see below) which includes recommendations for switching to cost-effective products.
OptimiseRx messages will be used to inform prescribers of cost-effective options.
Routine prescribing is not recommended for mild dry skin conditions for which self-care is appropriate (refer to NHS England guidance where necessary https://surrey.res.services/PAD/Profile/NonClinicalProfile/4411
The unsafe use of emollients can result in serious or fatal injuries from fire. The Surrey Fire and Rescue service provide ‘Safe and Well’ visits to residents across Surrey, providing them with fire safety advice, equipment and sign post those who require additional care and support to teams and services available to them within their boroughs.
The form below can be used to refer patients to this service. A link is also provided along with a leaflet explaining the service.
