Status 1
- Modified release tablets
Modified release tablets are the preferred treatment option in new patients.
Specialist mental health team initiation due to requirement for early intervention following initiaion of antipsychotic medication. Unneccesary referral to a separate weight management / metabolic specialist service could prevent timely initiation.
Status 2
- Immediate release tablets
Metformin modified-release tablets are the preferred formulation.
Specialist mental health team initiation due to requirement for early intervention following initiaion of antipsychotic medication. Unneccesary referral to a separate weight management / metabolic specialist service could prevent timely initiation.
Immediate release metformin to be continued if effective. Switch to modified-release metformin if IR not tolerated or if this is the patient's preference.
