ORAL semaglutide:

Rybelsus® and oral Wegovy® both contain semaglutide but are not interchangeable.

  • Rybelsus® should only be prescribed for its licensed indication of Type 2 diabetes mellitus and should not be used for weight management.
  • Oral Wegovy® is not currently routinely commissioned on the NHS. More information can be found here

06 Oct 26 - Surrey & Sussex Area Prescribing Committee (APC)

The Surrey & Sussex APC endorsed the NHS England letter "Prescribing and Supply of Oral Semaglutide Products", its publication on the Surrey and Sussex formularies and the NOT RECOMMENDED formulary classification for oral Wegovy® for weight management, with supporting prescribing information.

14 May 25 - Surrey Heartlands Medicines Safety Committee (MSC)

GLP-1 receptor agonists can impact female hormones, including HRT and contraceptives, and reproductive health through various mechanisms.  For further information and advice see links below.

06 Dec 23 - Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care System Area Prescribing Committee (APC)

The Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care System Area Prescribing Committee has agreed semaglutide for obesity and weight management in line with NICE TA875.

A RED traffic light status has been agreed.

Please Note that there will be a phased implementation in line with the guidance issued by the Society for Endocrinology and Obesity Management Collaborative UK.  Initially patients who meet the eligibility criteria listed in phase 1 of the guidance will be prioritised for referral to the specialist weight management service to allow those with the combination of highest and most urgent clinical need to be assessed.
